This trek is suitable for those who do not have much time to spend and old people with a burning desire to observe the beauty of snow capped mountains. The trek can be lengthened and shortened according to the time you have. Ghorepani / Poonhill trek is a colorful short foray into the Annapurna region. The trail winds through collage valleys, dense mossy forests and past icy waterfalls where you can stop to cool your face. Around every corner is a tantalizing glimpse of the high mountains, whole horizons of which will be revealed to you as you reach the high points of your trek.
This trek in the Annapurna foothills to the view point on Poon Hill (3210m.) offers all the best of trekking in Nepal. Enjoy trekking in the spectacular mountain scenery through charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs and Magars. Dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque peak of Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail Peak) dominating the skyline. Mt. Dhaulagiri ranges and Mt. Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing by professional tour guide.
Early in the morning your guide will come to pick you up to your hotel and then walk with you to the tourist bus station (Kantipath). The bus will leave 7:00 a.m. in the morning from Kathmandu. It’s 200km from Kathmandu. It takes 6/7 hours by bus. During your journey you may pass many small towns and many rivers like the Trisuli River, Marshyandi River which are very famous for water rafting. The bus will stop for breakfast and lunch along the way. You may see Nepal´s first cable car which is the transportation for Manakamana Temple. You will enjoy this bus journey with different view of mountains like Ganesh Himal, Mt. Manaslu and the Annapruna Himalayan range.
Alternative route:
There are many flights to Pokhara from Kathmandu every day. You may choose to take a flight to get there. It takes 30 minutes from Kathmandu. It is the more convenient way to get to Pokhara.
Day 04: Pokhara to Ulleri (1960m, 5/6 hours walking)
Nayapul - Birethati - Matathati - Ramgai - Sudame-Hile –Tikhedunga – Ulleri (village)
We have breakfast in the morning at the hotel and then we take a taxi to Nayapul. It is about 1:30 hours to get there. We start our trekking from Nayapul. It takes 5/6 hours walking to get Ulleri village. This is the village of the Magar people. During the hike we pass many local villages, teahouses, gentle green rolling hills, rivers and local people. After crossing the Tikhedunga Khola on the suspension bridge, the trail begins to climb up quite steeply on a stone staircase that is more than 3200 steps. After climbing the hill we can see Mt. Annapurna south (7219m.) and Hiunchuli(6441m.).
Day 05: Ulleri to Ghorepani(2874m, 5hour walking)
Banthati – Nangethanti – Ghorepani - Ghorepani Deurali
We have breakfast in the morning then we start to hike. It is about 5 hours walking to get Ghorepani Deurali. It is a very pleasant part of the trek. We walk in the jungle most of the day. If you come in the spring you will see a lot of Rhododendron flowers. You have the chance to see many wild birds and animals. There are two Ghorepani .one id Ghorepani and another is Ghorepani Deurali mountains. We stay overnight at Ghorepani Deurali because it is the top of the hill. You can see a great view of many snow capped mountains like Annapurna South, Bahari shikhar, Hiuchuli, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri ranges, Tukuche peak and many great Himalayan peaks.
Day 06: Ghorepani to Tadapani (2660m, 5 hours walking)
Deurali pass (view point/ Gurung Hill –banthanti- Tadapani
We get up early in the morning with warm clothes and head off for Poonhill(3210m)., it is not necessary to take much with us as we return later to collect our main rucksacks. It is about one hour walking to get to this view point. You will see the best sunrise and magnificent view of the Himalayas like Annapurna South, Bahari shikhar, Hiuchuli, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri ranges, Tukuche peak, Annapurna I,II,III,IV, Lamjung Himal, Mt.Manaslu ranges, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and others mountains. After this unforgettable experience, we come back to Ghorepani for breakfast and the hike to Tadapani. It is about 5 hours walking to get there. The hike starts with quite a steep uphill section to Deurali pass. It is a similar elevation to Poonhill. We can see all the mountains from here as well. After that we hike down to Tadapani through the small Deurali village and Banthanti. Again this is a very nice part of the trek. We can see snow capped mountains as well as a lot of green hills in the foreground. .
Day 07: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1939m, 3hours walking and rest of day explore in village)
Baisi Kharka – Ghandruk
If it is a clear morning we may see Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (fishtail) and Annapurna III very close. We have our breakfast enjoying the view of these mountains. After that we hike to Ghandruk Village through the Baisi Kharka (Buffalo pasture). We walk down to Ghandruk Village. When we arrive in Ghandruk village we have lunch there, after that we visit the village. It is one of the biggest villages of Gurung people. There is the Gurung Culture Museum. We can go and see the way of life of the Gurung people. From this village we can still see views of snow peaks.
Day 08: Ghandruk to Tolka (1700m, 5 hours walking)
Kyumi –landruk-Tolka
The hiking to Tolka is a stone staircase that takes us up and down. It takes 4/5 hours walking to get there. During this walk we pass many small villages and again we are able to witness their life style. You may imagine, they are poor in material belongings but they have happy life. We will see a lot of nice terraces of rice and millet. We also pass Landruk village to get to Talka.
Day 09: Tolka to Pokhara (5 hours walking and half hour driving)
Bhichok Deurali pass – pothana – Dhampus – Phedi – Pokhara
Sadly this is the last day of hiking, but it is still very enjoyable. We walk through a lot of forest. We also can see views of the Annapurna Himalayan ranges. During this part of the walking we pass many local villages which are interesting to see. It is about 5 hours walking to Phedi. From here we take a taxi to Pokhara. It takes about 30 minutes by car to Pokhara.
Day 10: Pokhara to Kathmandu (6/7 hours driving by tourist bus)
Early in the morning your guide will wake you up and then drive you to the tourist bus station. The bus leaves at 7:30 a.m. in the morning to Kathmandu. After arriving in Kathmandu, your guide will take you to your selected hotel.
Day 11: Departure to your home country.
